The State Hermitage is one of the largest and oldest museums in the world.

The Hermitage Museum ranks with the Louvre, the British Museum, and Metropolitan Museum of Art as one of the world's most important and richest art galleries. The museum's collection includes more than three million works of art and monuments of world culture.

The museum was founded in 1764 by Catherine the Great and has been open to the public since 1852.
